We are looking for an experienced New Product Development (NPD) Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in moulding engineering, polymer/plastic processing, and new product development.
The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end development of new polymer/plastic products, from concept and feasibility through mould development, trials, validation, and successful transfer to production.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end New Product Development (NPD) activities for polymer/plastic components.
Understand product requirements, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
Evaluate product feasibility from a moulding, material, tooling, and manufacturing and quality perspective.
Select appropriate polymers/raw materials based on product application and performance requirements.
Work closely with tooling, mould design, production, quality, purchase, and suppliers for successful product development.
Coordinate mould development, mould trials, sampling, and process validation.
Conduct and document moulding trials, identify defects, and implement corrective actions.
Troubleshoot moulding issues such as warpage, sink marks, short moulding, flash, weld lines, shrinkage, dimensional variation, and surface defects.
Develop and optimize moulding process parameters for new products.
Support DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and provide inputs for product.
Review and approve initial samples against drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Coordinate PPAP/APQP(Production Part Approval Process/Advanced Product Quality Planning)or equivalent product approval documentation, wherever applicable.
Prepare and maintain NPD-related documents including trial reports, process parameters, BOM, specifications, and development records.
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement CAPA for development-related issues.
Work with vendors/tool rooms for mould modifications and improvements.
Support cost optimization through material selection, cycle-time reduction, process improvement, and mould optimization.
Ensure smooth handover of successfully developed products from NPD to production and quality teams.
Monitor new product development timelines and ensure projects are completed within agreed cost, quality, and delivery targets.
Stay updated on new engineering polymers, moulding technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Required Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of injection moulding and plastic processing.
Good understanding of engineering polymers and their applications.
Hands-on experience in mould trials and moulding process optimization.
Knowledge of mould construction, tooling, and mould maintenance.
Understanding of polymer properties such as shrinkage, flow behaviour, thermal properties, and material selection.
Ability to interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, GD&T, and product specifications.
Knowledge of product development methodologies and quality requirements.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience working with mould/tooling vendors and external development partners.
Knowledge of AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Creo or equivalent CAD software will be an advantage.
