In this role, we are looking for a Domain Engineer – Industrial Automation to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. You will contribute to the design and development of next-generation industrial automation products by leveraging your expertise in process automation, IEC 61131 programming, and control system engineering.
Working as part of a collaborative Agile engineering team, you will develop reusable automation components, translate domain requirements into scalable product capabilities, and partner with Product Management, Architects, Software Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to deliver robust, reliable, and high-performance automation solutions.
This role is contributing to the Process Automation – Digital Industry Analytics / Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

Design, develop, and maintain industrial automation applications using IEC 61131-3 programming languages, while building reusable control libraries, function blocks, engineering templates, and modular automation components that support scalable product development.

Develop industrial control strategies including sequencing, state machines, interlocks, alarms, diagnostics, permissives, and process control logic, translating domain expertise into reliable automation functionality for process industries.

Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Software Engineers, and Quality Engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle to deliver high-quality automation solutions using Agile methodologies, technical reviews, and structured validation practices.

Drive engineering excellence by performing testing, root cause analysis, technical documentation, continuous product improvements, and adoption of engineering best practices to enhance software quality, maintainability, and operational performance.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

3–10 years of experience in Industrial Automation, Control Systems Engineering, or industrial software product development.

Strong hands-on experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages, including Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Ladder Logic, along with PLC and DCS programming.

Good understanding of industrial control systems, process automation, sequencing, state machines, alarms, interlocks, diagnostics, reusable automation libraries, and modular application design.

Experience working with process industries such as Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Refining, or similar manufacturing domains, with knowledge of ABB System 800xA and/or ABB Sattline considered an advantage.

Experience across the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, implementation, testing, documentation, and Agile software development practices.

Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and continuously adopt emerging engineering technologies.
