Duties
- Conduct on-site visits to healthcare facilities, clinics, and patient locations to follow up on outstanding accounts and resolve billing discrepancies
- Verify the accuracy of medical records, including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classifications, ensuring proper documentation for billing purposes
- Collaborate with medical offices to gather missing information, clarify billing details, and facilitate the collection process
- Review medical records and documentation to confirm compliance with coding standards and insurance requirements
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and providers to expedite payments and resolve account issues
- Maintain detailed records of follow-up activities, including notes on conversations, actions taken, and account status updates
- Stay informed about changes in medical billing regulations, ICD coding updates, and insurance policies to ensure compliance
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical office settings or healthcare billing environments with knowledge of medical terminology and records management
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Records) platforms for accessing patient information
- Strong understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes; CPT coding; DRG classifications; and medical billing procedures
- Experience in medical collection efforts with a focus on accounts receivable follow-up in a field setting
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and patients professionally and assertively
- Ability to navigate complex documentation processes accurately while adhering to confidentiality standards
- Basic computer skills including proficiency with MS Office applications and specialized billing software
