A Mechanical Design Engineer conceptualizes, develops, and tests mechanical components and systems. They take products from the initial concept phase to manufacturing, ensuring designs are functional, reliable, cost-effective, and safe. [1, 2]Key Responsibilities
- Design & Modeling: Create 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA).
- Analysis & Testing: Perform stress, thermal, and structural analysis using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to validate designs.
- Prototyping: Build prototypes and run physical tests to evaluate product performance against safety and industry standards.
- Manufacturing Collaboration: Work alongside production teams to ensure design feasibility, optimize assembly, and resolve manufacturing discrepancies.
- Documentation: Maintain engineering logs, technical specifications, and user or service manuals. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in CAD and FEA/CAE tools.
- Engineering Knowledge: Solid understanding of mechanics, material selection, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot real-world mechanical problems.
- Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical specifications to cross-functional teams and stakeholders. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]?
- Which specific CAD software is required (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo)?
- Is this an entry-level or senior role?
