A Senior Accountant is responsible for managing accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, and supporting business decision-making. Typical responsibilities include:
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage the general ledger and ensure accurate accounting records.
- Reconcile bank accounts, customer accounts, vendor accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
- Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
- Process and review journal entries and accruals.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, or local regulations).
Financial Reporting
- Prepare management reports and financial analysis.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance.
- Analyze financial variances and recommend improvements.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and review GST/VAT, TDS, corporate tax, and other statutory filings (as applicable).
- Ensure compliance with government regulations and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.
Internal Controls
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation and record keeping.
Team Management
- Supervise junior accountants and accounting staff.
- Review their work for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide training and guidance.
ERP & Systems
- Work with ERP/accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Tally, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, or NetSuite.
- Improve accounting processes through automation and system enhancements.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, etc.).
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Leadership and communication skills.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- CA, CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent certification (often preferred).
- 5–8+ years of accounting experience, depending on the organization.
