Operation Theatre (OT) Technician
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare the operation theatre before surgeries by arranging sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain infection control protocols.
- Check the functionality of OT equipment such as anesthesia machines, suction units, OT lights, monitors, and electrosurgical units before procedures.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures by providing instruments and required support.
- Position patients safely for surgery as directed by the surgical team.
- Maintain a sterile environment throughout surgical procedures.
- Monitor and replenish surgical supplies and maintain inventory records.
- Clean and disinfect the operation theatre after each procedure.
- Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
- Maintain OT documentation, equipment maintenance logs, and surgical records.
- Respond promptly during emergency surgeries and trauma cases.
- Follow hospital safety standards, infection control guidelines, and accreditation requirements (such as NABH where applicable). (Indeed)
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT/OTT) or
- B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (B.Sc. OTT)
Experience
- Freshers may be eligible for entry-level positions.
- 1–3 years of OT experience is preferred by many hospitals.
- Experience in specialties such as Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, or Laparoscopic Surgery is an advantage. (Docthub)
