Job Description – Garment Stitching Manager
Job Summary
The Garment Stitching Manager is responsible for managing the complete stitching department to ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The role involves overseeing sewing lines, manpower planning, line balancing, machine utilization, and coordination with Industrial Engineering (IE), Quality, PPC, Cutting, and Finishing departments to ensure smooth production flow.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Plan and monitor daily stitching production targets in line with the production schedule.
- Ensure timely completion of sewing operations to meet delivery commitments.
- Monitor line-wise production performance and take corrective actions to achieve planned output.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager and PPC team for production planning and execution.
Line Management
- Manage multiple sewing lines and ensure optimum line balancing.
- Allocate operators based on skill levels and production requirements.
- Optimize machine utilization and minimize idle time.
- Ensure smooth workflow and remove production bottlenecks.
Productivity & Efficiency
- Improve line efficiency through effective manpower deployment and process optimization.
- Monitor hourly production, efficiency, and operator performance.
- Work closely with the Industrial Engineering (IE) team to improve productivity and reduce cycle time.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing and 5S.
Quality Management
- Ensure garments are stitched according to approved specifications and buyer requirements.
- Coordinate with the Quality team to minimize defects, alterations, and rework.
- Monitor DHU (Defects per Hundred Units) and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards throughout the stitching process.
Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise Sewing Supervisors, Line Leaders, Mechanics, and Sewing Operators.
- Conduct regular team meetings and production reviews.
- Identify training needs and improve operator skills through coaching.
- Maintain discipline, attendance, and employee engagement within the department.
Machine & Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure machines are in good working condition.
- Minimize machine downtime through preventive maintenance.
- Ensure availability of required attachments, folders, and sewing accessories.
Coordination with Other Departments
- Coordinate with Cutting for timely availability of cut panels.
- Work with the Finishing department to ensure uninterrupted garment flow.
- Liaise with Merchandising, QA, IE, PPC, and Maintenance teams for effective production management.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and factory regulations.
- Promote safe working practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the stitching section.
Reporting
- Prepare daily production reports, line efficiency reports, and manpower reports.
- Monitor key production KPIs and submit performance reports to management.
- Analyze production data and recommend improvement measures.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of garment stitching processes and sewing operations.
- Expertise in line balancing and production planning.
- Knowledge of industrial engineering concepts (SMV, SAM, line efficiency).
- Understanding of garment construction and sewing techniques.
- Strong leadership, people management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot production and quality issues.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/MIS systems.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Production, Fashion Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certification in Lean Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering is an advantage.
Experience
- 8–15 years of experience in garment manufacturing.
- At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role in the stitching department.
- Experience handling woven, knit, or denim garments in an export-oriented manufacturing environment is preferred.
Pay: From ₹500,000.00 per year
