Job Title: Simulation Engineer – HVAC & Thermal Systems
Career Level: E7 (Senior / Lead Specialist)
Strategic Business Unit (SBU): Powertrain Engineering (PTE)
Location / Department: Thermal Management & Energy Systems
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
As a Simulation Engineer (E7) in HVAC and Thermal Systems, you will lead the dynamic 0D/1D system-level design, simulation, and thermal analysis for advanced automotive powertrains. This role covers traditional Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV). You will collaborate closely with system architects, test engineers, and automotive OEMs to synthesize high-efficiency thermal management solutions, establish control logic, and optimize vehicle energy consumption.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
1. System Architecture & Concept Development
- Develop, layout, and optimize dynamic thermal management and HVAC system concepts across diverse vehicle architectures (ICE, HEV, BEV, FCEV).
- Design coolant loops, refrigerant circuits, heat exchanger packages, and integrated cabin climate control systems.
- Synthesize engineering solutions to balance component cooling demands, cabin comfort, and total vehicle energy efficiency.
2. 0D/1D Numerical Modeling & CAE Analysis
- Build, calibrate, and execute complex 0D/1D numerical models for coolant circuits, AC systems, heat pumps, and vehicle thermal networks.
- Size heat exchangers (radiators, chillers, condensers, evaporators) and select appropriate pumps, fans, and flow control valves.
- Define and integrate basic control algorithms and mechatronic control logic for energy-efficient thermal management using co-simulation setups.
3. Testing Correlation & Post-Processing
- Process, interpret, and validate raw test bed/vehicle measurement data against simulation outputs.
- Identify root causes for model-to-test discrepancies and continuously improve model fidelity and predictive accuracy.
- Produce actionable design recommendations and technical reports to refine system performance.
4. Project Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Present technical findings, tradeoffs, and design recommendations directly to internal leadership and external customer engineering teams.
- Manage multiple concurrent project deliverables while maintaining strict quality standards and timelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Required: Master’s (M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Eng) or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
Experience & Skills
- Domain Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of dedicated professional experience in automotive thermal management systems and 1D simulation.
- Core Physics Knowledge: Deep knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, hydraulics, and turbo-machinery principles.
- CAE Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with 1D simulation tools such as GT-Suite (GT-POWER / GT-COOL), IPG Cruise M, Siemens Amesim, Flowmaster, or KULI.
- Controls & Scripting: Strong understanding of mechatronic control algorithms with proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink and basic scripting skills (Python or MATLAB) for post-processing and workflow automation.
- Analytical Skills: Proven ability to validate, plausibilize, and translate raw experimental data into predictive simulation models.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Highly self-organized with strong self-responsibility and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to prioritize effectively across multi-project environments.
- Excellent presentation and technical reporting abilities.
