A Diesel/HSD In-charge in a bulk cargo handling operation (ports, mining, or large logistics terminals) oversees the end-to-end management of fuel supply, storage, and equipment refuelling. They are critical for preventing operational downtime, managing bulk inventory, and ensuring strict environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Fuel Management & Inventory Control
- Procurement & Supply: Coordinate with suppliers for timely HSD (High-Speed Diesel) procurement, ensuring bulk delivery schedules align with operational demands.• Inventory Tracking: Monitor daily fuel consumption, track receipt/issue logs, and conduct routine manual dips and automated tank gauging to prevent shortages. [, , ]• Quality Assurance: Perform quality and density tests (such as API gravity tests) to ensure fuel meets required specifications and is free from water or contaminants.
Equipment & Asset Maintenance
- Storage Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of bulk diesel storage tanks, unloading pumps, dispensing units, and filtration systems.• Refuelling Operations: Supervise the refuelling of heavy cargo handling equipment, such as reach stackers, mobile harbor cranes, payloaders, and heavy-duty trucks.• Breakdown Support: Coordinate with diesel mechanics to troubleshoot fuel-related engine issues, filter clogs, or injector problems across the fleet.
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Compliance
- Spill Prevention: Enforce strict environmental and hazardous material spill containment procedures in accordance with port and terminal regulations.• Fire Safety: Ensure fire extinguishers, grounding systems, and safety signs are up to date and functioning around bulk fuel zones.• Compliance: Adhere to government petroleum and explosive safety regulations regarding bulk fuel storage and handling.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Automotive or Marine Engineering.• Experience: 2 to 7 years in fleet management, terminal operations, or bulk fuel depot management.
Core Competencies
- Inventory Accuracy: High attention to detail with zero tolerance for fuel pilferage or unexplained losses.• Crisis Management: Ability to resolve emergency fuel shortages or equipment breakdowns without delaying vessel turnaround times.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹85,000.00 per month
