Job Summary:
The Harness Engineer / Technician is responsible for assembly, routing, testing, and basic design support of electrical wiring harnesses as per drawings and specifications. The role involves hands-on work with wires, connectors, terminals, and cable protection while ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Harness Assembly & Wiring:
- Assemble wiring harnesses as per wiring diagrams, schematics, and harness drawings
- Cut, strip, crimp, solder, and terminate wires
- Perform looming, taping, lacing, heat-shrink, and sleeving
- Route cables neatly with proper bend radius and strain relief
- Ensure correct wire color, gauge, and length
Connector & Component Handling:
- Assemble connectors, terminals, backshells, and splices
- Work with D-sub, circular, automotive, and industrial connectors
- Identify and handle 24VDC / low-voltage power and signal wiring
- Read pin-out tables and connection schedules
Testing & Quality Checks:
- Perform continuity, short circuit, and insulation resistance tests
- Identify and rectify wiring faults
- Internal quality checks
Documentation & Drawing Support:
- Read wiring diagrams, harness layout drawings, and BOMs
- Provide feedback for routing feasibility and assembly improvements
- Maintain production and inspection records
Production & Field Support:
- Support prototype and pilot builds
- Assist during panel wiring, machine wiring, or site installation
- Rework and modification of harnesses as per ECN updates
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of electrical wiring, symbols, wire gauges, and crimping
- Knowledge of cable protection methods
- Familiarity with multimeter and testing tools
- Awareness of ESD and electrical safety practices
Tools & Equipment:
- Crimping tools, wire stripper, cutter, heat gun
- Multimeter / continuity tester
