JOB DESCRIPTION
Key areas of responsibility:
Ensure comprehensive patient care and maintenance of quality standards in Pharmacy
1. To control inventory levels and ordering process according to allotted budget.
2. To establishes feasible method of storage of pharmaceuticals & to minimizes expiry of pharmaceuticals.
3. To establishes billing and pricing structures for pharmaceuticals subject to the approval of the hospital.
4. To control drug purchases cost by negotiations and contracts.
5. To ensure delivery of quality pharmacy services for clients and employees.
6. To ensure the dispensing of medications with clear instructions and correct labeling to patients.
7. To provide clear, understandable instructions to discharge patients in a language known to patient with information leaflets if possible.
8. To act as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning prescriptions orders, drugs and pharmaceutical details, resident reactions, errors and complaints.
9. To plan, organize and supervise activities in the hospital pharmacy areas according to hospital policies and directives, good pharmaceutical practice, standard practices of the profession and pharmacy legislation.
10. To maintain & establish departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment and injection control standards.
11. To implement decision of the drug Committee meetings.
12. To ensure secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.
13. To check drugs ordered correspond with conditions of patients, overdoses do not occur, allergies and drug interactions have been excluded.
14. To comply with pharmacy Legislation and maintains all records in the center as required by the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and the Psychotropic Substances Regulations 1989.
15. To ensure stock taking and drug audits.
16. To check medication orders entered into dispensing program are accurate and utilized software correctly.
17. To investigates reports of incidents, medication errors and patient complaints. Resolves problems or makes recommendations for action.
18. To reviews nurse unit stock lists and maintain minimum stock.
19. To provide doctors with formulary.
20. To monthly report on goods received, pharmacy revenue and other reports as required by the Accounts department.
21. To check that medication orders entered into dispensing program are accurate and utilized software correctly.
22. To review and advise the administrator of patients concerns, and recommends changes in policies and procedures.
23. To investigate report of incidents, medication errors and patient complaints. Resolves problems or makes recommendations for action.
24. To communicate policy and procedure updates to pharmacy staff and other departments when necessary.
25. To provide on job orientation to pharmacists and keeps them informed of the philosophies, policies, and procedures to be followed in caring for patients and their families.
26. To provide for in-service and/or continuing education for the pharmacy staff
27. To evaluate the work performance of the staff.
28. Prepares clear and concise clinical briefs for use by nurses, medical staff and pharmacy.
29. To maintain appropriate departmental documentation.
30. To treat all communication about patients, staff, and other organizational business confidentially.
31. To be involved in quality Assurance / Quality control activities.
32. To perform all the jobs as may be assigned due to exigencies of work.
