1. Role purpose
The Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and profitability of the vehicle workshop. The post holder will plan and coordinate all workshop activity, manage a team of commercial vehicle technicians, and ensure the highest standards of workmanship, customer satisfaction, and compliance are maintained at all times.
2. Key responsibilitiesWorkshop operations
- Plan, schedule, and allocate work across the workshop to maximise labour efficiency and throughput
- Monitor job progress and ensure vehicles are completed on time and to the required standard
- Oversee quality control checks and pre-delivery inspections on all completed work
- Manage workshop loading and capacity to meet customer and fleet operator commitments
- Maintain accurate workshop records including job cards, time sheets, and vehicle histories
People management
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of qualified commercial vehicle technicians
- Conduct regular performance reviews, appraisals, and one-to-one meetings
- Identify training needs and coordinate manufacturer or trade training programmes
- Support the recruitment and induction of new workshop staff
- Manage attendance, discipline, and conduct in line with company HR policies
Financial performance
- Take ownership of workshop revenue, labour efficiency, and gross profit targets
- Monitor and control workshop costs including consumables, subcontract labour, and warranty
- Review daily and weekly KPIs, identify variances, and implement corrective action
- Authorise purchase orders and manage expenditure within agreed budgets
Customer and stakeholder relations
- Work closely with service advisors to ensure clear communication on vehicle status and completion times
- Liaise with fleet customers, operators, and insurers where required
- Handle technical escalations and customer complaints in a professional and timely manner
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with manufacturer warranty and technical support teams
Health, safety & compliance
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workshop environment
- Ensure all technicians hold valid and current relevant certifications.
- Carry out regular risk assessments, tool audits, and equipment inspections
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer workshop standards and any relevant franchise requirements
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
