About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and commercially oriented Head – Finance & Accounts to lead the organisation’s finance function and provide strategic financial direction to the business.
The position will be responsible for financial planning, budgeting, reporting, costing, working capital management, treasury, taxation, internal controls, audit, ERP-driven financial automation and development of a high-performing finance team.
The ideal candidate should be more than a strong accounting professional. We are looking for someone who can partner with the MD and business leadership in improving profitability, cash flow, financial discipline and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process.
- Develop financial forecasts, scenarios and business plans in consultation with the MD and business heads.
- Monitor budget versus actual performance and identify deviations.
- Provide management with actionable insights on financial performance and emerging risks.
- Ensure timely submission and approval of annual budgets.
Key KPI:
- Budget vs Actual variance maintained within ±5%.
- Timely completion of annual budgeting and forecasting cycles.
2. Financial Reporting & Month-End Closures
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial closures.
- Prepare and review management MIS, P&L, balance sheet, cash-flow statements and other financial reports.
- Establish robust financial reporting systems and review mechanisms.
- Coordinate with statutory and internal auditors.
- Ensure minimum audit observations and timely closure of audit issues.
Key KPI:
- 100% timely financial closures.
- High MIS accuracy.
- Minimal audit remarks and timely closure of observations.
3. Cost Control & Margin Management
- Establish robust product/project costing systems.
- Analyse material, manpower, overhead and operating costs.
- Identify cost optimisation opportunities across the organisation.
- Monitor gross margins by product, project, customer or business segment.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide corrective recommendations to management.
Key KPI:
- Year-on-year cost reduction.
- Improvement/maintenance of targeted gross margins.
- Accurate and timely variance analysis.
4. Working Capital Management
- Drive effective management of receivables, payables and inventory.
- Monitor customer outstanding and develop strategies for faster collections.
- Work closely with sales and business teams to improve collections and credit discipline.
- Optimise inventory levels without impacting business operations.
- Manage vendor payment cycles strategically.
Key KPI:
- DSO ≤ 60 days.
- Inventory days ≤ 45 days.
- Continuous reduction in overdue receivables/payables.
5. Taxation, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure timely compliance with GST, TDS, advance tax, income tax and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Oversee preparation and filing of statutory returns and annual financial/tax filings.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and statutory authorities.
- Identify potential tax and financial risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure zero avoidable penalties and regulatory non-compliance.
Key KPI:
- 100% on-time statutory filings.
- Zero avoidable tax penalties.
- Effective management of tax notices and assessments.
6. Banking & Treasury Management
- Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.
- Oversee CC/OD limits, working capital facilities, LC/BG requirements and other banking arrangements.
- Negotiate interest rates, banking charges and credit facilities.
- Ensure optimum utilisation of available funds and credit limits.
- Develop cash-flow forecasts and ensure adequate liquidity for business operations.
Key KPI:
- Interest cost maintained at ≤2% of revenue, subject to business conditions.
- Efficient utilisation of banking limits.
- No avoidable liquidity or funding disruptions.
7. ERP Integration, MIS & Financial Automation
- Ensure effective utilisation of ERP finance and accounting modules.
- Work with IT/ERP teams to improve financial data integrity and reporting.
- Identify opportunities for automation of MIS, reporting and financial processes.
- Establish dashboards and management reports for faster decision-making.
- Ensure integration between finance and operational functions.
Key KPI:
- Financial data accuracy ≥98%.
- Reporting automation ≥85%.
- Improved speed and reliability of management reporting.
8. Internal Controls, Audit & Governance
- Establish and strengthen financial controls, SOPs and approval mechanisms.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and delegation of authority.
- Identify control weaknesses and implement corrective measures.
- Lead internal and statutory audit coordination.
- Ensure timely closure of audit findings.
Key KPI:
- Minimal internal control failures.
- High percentage of audit findings closed within agreed timelines.
- Strong compliance with financial SOPs and governance requirements.
9. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance and accounts team.
- Define KRAs and performance objectives for finance personnel.
- Build a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Identify capability gaps and implement appropriate training.
- Develop succession plans for key finance positions.
Key KPI:
- Finance team attrition <10%.
- Minimum 20 training hours per employee per year.
- Improved team productivity and capability.
Candidate ProfileEducation
- CA / CMA preferred.
- MBA Finance / M.Com may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of Indian accounting, taxation and financial regulations is essential.
Experience
- 18–25 years of overall experience in Finance & Accounts.
- Significant experience leading the finance function of a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, FMCG or similar business environment.
- Should have handled financial planning, costing, working capital, treasury, taxation, audit and MIS.
- Experience working directly with promoters, MDs, CEOs or business leadership will be strongly preferred.
