Job Summary
The Purchase Manager is responsible for leading the organization's procurement function by developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely procurement of materials, goods, and services at the best possible cost while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Lead and manage the purchasing team to achieve departmental goals.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers and vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contracts, and delivery schedules to maximize value.
- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, equipment, and services to support operations.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production, stores, planning, and logistics teams to avoid stock shortages or excess inventory.
- Review and approve purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and supplier agreements.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, and service, and implement improvement plans where necessary.
- Develop cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing, value engineering, and vendor consolidation.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, ethical sourcing practices, and applicable statutory requirements.
- Analyze market trends, commodity prices, and supply risks to support informed purchasing decisions.
- Prepare procurement budgets, forecasts, and management reports.
- Resolve supplier disputes, quality issues, and delivery delays.
- Collaborate with finance for invoice reconciliation, payment scheduling, and cost control.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation for audits and internal controls.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's degree or professional certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
- 5–10 years of procurement or purchasing experience, including team leadership.
- Strong knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and strategic sourcing.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
