Host / Hostess – Indian Inspired Restaurant Chennai
About the Role
The host is the first and last impression of every visit. This isn't a clipboard-and-smile role — you are the tone-setter for a contemporary small plates dining experience where pace, warmth, and attentiveness are part of the product. You'll manage the floor, own the guest journey from arrival to farewell, and be the connective tissue between front-of-house and kitchen.
What You'll Do
- Welcome and seat guests, manage walk-ins and reservations with composure during peak service
- Maintain and update the reservation system in real time — covers, waitlists, table status
- Communicate table turns and pax counts accurately to the FOH team and manager on duty
- Handle guest queries, special requests, and celebrations proactively — not reactively
- Manage wait times honestly; never overpromise a table
- Coordinate with servers and runners on seating readiness before leading guests in
- Maintain the entrance, menus, and host station at all times
- Collect and log feedback; flag complaints to the manager immediately
What We're Looking For
- Prior experience in a restaurant or hospitality front-of-house role preferred
- Presentable, well-spoken in Tamil and English (Hindi a plus)
- Calm under pressure — Friday night at full covers should not rattle you
- Strong spatial awareness of the floor layout and table capacity
- Genuine warmth — not performed hospitality, but actual attentiveness to people
- Comfortable with basic digital tools for reservations and guest records
Working Conditions
- Shift-based role including weekends, public holidays, and dinner service
- On-feet for the duration of service
- Reporting to the Restaurant Manager / Duty Manager
Compensation
Competitive, commensurate with experience. Meals during shift provided.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
