A CCTV Field Engineer is a technical professional who installs, maintains, and troubleshoots surveillance systems at various locations. They travel directly to client sites to handle everything from physical camera placement and cable routing to network configuration and system testing. The role is highly hands-on and spans several core areas of security and IT: System Installation & Setup
- Hardware Mounting: Safely positioning and mounting IP and analog CCTV cameras for optimal coverage and field of view.
- Cabling & Infrastructure: Running structured cables (e.g., CAT6), managing basic fiber optics, and ensuring proper power supply connections.
- Recording Devices: Setting up and configuring Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and Network Video Recorders (NVRs).
Networking & Configuration
- System Integration: Connecting surveillance hardware to local area networks (LAN) and the internet for remote viewing capabilities.
- Software Configuration: Assigning IP addresses, configuring motion detection settings, setting up push alerts, and formatting storage drives.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Preventive Checks: Conducting routine Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) to verify equipment safety and system uptime.
- Fault Finding: Diagnosing and repairing connectivity issues, power failures, or hardware malfunctions.
- Camera Adjustments: Cleaning lenses, adjusting focal lengths, and testing signal quality to ensure clear, usable video feeds.
Client Support & Administration
- Customer Training: Demonstrating how to use viewing software, retrieve recorded footage, and back up video evidence.
- Documentation: Completing accurate paperwork for site surveys, installations, test results, and maintenance logs.
- Compliance: Adhering strictly to regional health and safety standards and relevant data protection laws (like GDPR) when handling client data.
