Job Summary
The B.Sc. Nursing Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, evidence-based, and compassionate nursing care to patients. The role includes patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring clinical conditions, assisting doctors during procedures, maintaining accurate documentation, educating patients and their families, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Assess patients' physical and psychological needs upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output, pain scores, and clinical progress.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the treating physician.
- Assist in medical procedures and emergency interventions.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity, privacy, and safety at all times.
- Identify changes in patient condition and promptly inform the treating consultant.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for investigations, procedures, and surgeries.
- Collect blood and other specimens as required.
- Perform wound dressing, catheterization, IV cannulation, NG tube insertion (as per competency), suctioning, and other nursing procedures.
- Operate and monitor medical equipment safely.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including hand hygiene and biomedical waste segregation.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during all clinical procedures.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing records.
- Document medication administration, procedures, patient observations, and progress notes.
- Complete admission, transfer, discharge, and incident documentation.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient records.
Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding medications, treatment plans, diet, rehabilitation, and discharge instructions.
- Promote preventive healthcare practices and healthy lifestyle choices.
Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants, resident doctors, physiotherapists, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and other departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and handover meetings.
- Ensure smooth continuity of patient care during shift changes.
Emergency Care
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and Code Blue situations.
- Perform Basic Life Support (BLS) and assist in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as trained.
- Maintain emergency equipment readiness.
Quality & Safety
- Adhere to NABH standards, hospital protocols, and nursing ethics.
- Report incidents, medication errors, and adverse events promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain ward inventory and nursing supplies.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Assist in orienting newly joined nursing staff and students.
- Participate in departmental meetings and continuing nursing education (CNE).
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid State Nursing Council registration.
- BLS certification (mandatory); ACLS certification preferred.
