Introduction
We are looking for a senior technical leader to own industrial networking and motor control software for our next-gen RISC-V-based real-time MCUs. Industrial networking sits at the heart of our industrial strategy – where the hardest problems live: complex switch and protocol IP, tight real-time latency budgets, and a wall of certification and conformance requirements. You’ll lead the software team building production-grade Industrial Ethernet stacks (EtherCAT, PROFINET, CC-Link IE TSN, Ethernet/IP), integrating them with motor control on the same MCU, and getting all of it validated on FPGA and first silicon.
This is a chance to:
Build the software that turns our industrial protocol IP into something a customer can actually ship.
Work where networking, real-time control, and functional safety meet – factory automation, robotics, motor drives, and zonal/edge compute.
Shape a growing team and set the technical direction for a strategic, high-visibility area of the business.
Our aim is to build software components that not only let our IP and SoC solutions be thoroughly validated but also give customers and partners a robust repository of software to kick-start their adoption of MIPS IP and SoCs – extracting the highest performance from hardware and software working together.
If you’re an innovative problem solver with a deep passion for embedded networking and real-time software, and you like building things from the ground up, we want to hear from you. As our mission goes, we are committed to offering “Freedom to Innovate Compute” – join us in accelerating your impact on the larger industry, and your own growth.
Our Key Differentiators
Our RISC-V MCUs are built with features that matter for this domain:
Real-Time Hardware Multithreading (RTMT): run the protocol firmware, TSN/time-sync, and application on dedicated hardware threads with minimal context-switching overhead – the key to hitting industrial latency targets.
Integrated TSN Ethernet switch and industrial protocol IP: multi-port TSN switch with the full 802.1 feature set, plus paths to EtherCAT, PROFINET IRT, and CC-Link IE TSN.
Custom instructions for math-intensive motor control, so networking and real-time control can live on one chip.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Build and lead a 5+ member cross-functional embedded software team across industrial networking and motor control.
Define execution plans, schedules, and quality metrics across SDK, protocol stacks, and validation.
Mentor engineers; guide them through hard technical calls and delivery pressure.
Industrial Networking Software
Deliver and integrate Industrial Ethernet stacks – EtherCAT (master and SubDevice), PROFINET RT/IRT, Ethernet/IP, CC-Link IE TSN, Modbus, and HSR/PRP redundancy – through in-house work and partners (RT-Labs, be.services, Beckhoff/Siemens IP).
Own a stack abstraction (port layer) and common APIs so customers and third-party stacks drop in cleanly.
Contribute to and leverage the RISC-V open-source ecosystem
Motor Control Software
Guide real-time control software (FOC loops, ADC/PWM handling, encoder interface) and its co-existence with the networking stack on shared cores/threads.
Deliver reference applications and customer packages that combine motor control with industrial connectivity.
Certification, Conformance & Compliance
Own conformance and certification readiness – CLPA (CC-Link IE TSN), EtherCAT Conformance Test Tool, PROFINET (ART Tester), and TSN profiles (IEC/IEEE 60802).
Set up conformance test infrastructure and drive the software to pass it.
Post-Silicon Validation (AVV) & Bring-Up
Define and run the software-centric validation strategy for the networking and control subsystems on FPGA and first silicon.
Lead bring-up, deep debugging, and regression of Ethernet/TSN switch, MACs, DMA, PHYs, timers, CAN/LIN.
Build automation for lab validation and CI pipelines; support ASIL-level safety validation where applicable.
Cross-Functional & Customer Engagement
Work closely with SoC/hardware, IP (e.g. Comcores/PacketArchitects), and safety teams; feed learnings back into next-gen switch and CPU features.
Engage OEM/Tier-1 and industrial customers (factory automation, robotics, motor drives) on integration, onboarding, and SDK adoption.
Ideally, you’ll have:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
7+ years in embedded software and/or post-silicon validation, with at least 2+ years leading a team.
Deep, hands-on experience with Industrial Ethernet and TSN – EtherCAT, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, CC-Link IE TSN, or HSR/PRP – including the IEEE 802.1 TSN standards. This is the core of the role; we want someone who has actually shipped and certified this, not read about it.
Strong RTOS background (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar), device drivers, and real-time systems.
Working knowledge of motor control fundamentals (FOC, ADC/PWM, encoders) or a demonstrated ability to lead across networking and control.
Hands-on bring-up and debug with OpenOCD, Segger J-Link, Lauterbach.
Solid scripting and automation (Python, Bash) and familiarity with CI/CD.
You might also have:
Experience taking an industrial protocol stack through conformance/certification (CLPA, EtherCAT CTT, PROFINET) a real plus.
Prior delivery of networking or motor control SDKs to Tier-1s or OEMs.
Familiarity with LwIP, OpenAvnu, gPTP/1588 time-sync stacks.
Knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262 / IEC 61508), bootloaders, secure boot, and firmware update.
Familiarity with RISC-V ISA; exposure to other ISAs (ARM64, x86_64).
