Job Summary
The Tool Room Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, repair, development, modification, and management of molds, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling equipment to ensure smooth production operations, quality standards, and minimum machine downtime.
Key ResponsibilitiesTool Maintenance & Repair
- Maintain molds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and production tools.
- Diagnose tooling problems and carry out repairs.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
- Minimize breakdowns and production losses due to tooling issues.
Tool Development
- Assist in designing and developing new tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Coordinate with production and quality departments for tooling improvements.
- Implement modifications to enhance tool life and productivity.
Production Support
- Provide tooling support to production teams.
- Ensure tools are available and in working condition before production starts.
- Troubleshoot tooling-related production issues.
Quality Control
- Verify tooling dimensions and specifications.
- Ensure tools meet quality standards and customer requirements.
- Conduct inspections using measuring instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, etc.
Documentation
- Maintain tool history cards and maintenance records.
- Track tool life and replacement schedules.
- Prepare reports on tooling performance and maintenance activities.
Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and tooling consumables.
- Monitor tool stock levels and initiate procurement requests when required.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow plant safety guidelines and PPE requirements.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the tool room.
- Ensure compliance with ISO and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in a manufacturing tool room.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of molds, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Understanding of Injection Moulding & Compression Moulding
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/SolidWorks (preferred).

For Fine Switchgears (Electrical Switch Manufacturing)
Additional experience preferred in:
- Plastic injection molds.
- Progressive and punching dies.
- Fixture development for switch assembly lines.
- Mold maintenance for electrical switch components.
