About Us
We build advanced AI agents that automate complex healthcare workflows and augment human decision-making in high-stakes, regulated industries. Scalefresh is a small, talented team of engineers and domain experts on a mission to make AI systems that are reliable, secure, and production-ready. We're growing and looking for high agency software engineers to join us.
About the Role
As an Applied AI Engineer, you will design and build agentic AI systems that automate multi-step workflows, reason over complex data, and take actions on behalf of users. You'll work directly with the founding team to ship AI agents into production environments where accuracy, security, and auditability matter.
Examples of work you will be involved in
- Build multi-step agent workflows using techniques like plan-and-execute, self-reflection, context management, and dynamic tool orchestration
- Design and implement RAG pipelines that retrieve context from diverse, structured and unstructured data sources
- Integrate tool calling and MCP servers to enable agents to take real-world actions across external systems and APIs
- Develop evaluation and testing frameworks that measure agent reliability, accuracy, and safety in production
- Red team AI systems to identify failure modes, hallucinations, and security vulnerabilities
- Build human-in-the-loop controls, guardrails, and observability into agent architectures
You'll be encouraged to be creative, own projects end-to-end, and shape how we build agentic AI for regulated industries.
About You
- You have built AI systems with advanced agent patterns
- You have strong software engineering fundamentals and mastery in Python
- You have built production grade agentic AI applications
- You enjoy working with a small group of expert-level engineers
Requirements
- 5+ years building software applications, with 1+ year building AI systems in production
- Hands-on experience with RAG architectures and vector stores (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, Azure AI Search, etc.)
- Built agent flows with techniques such as ReAct, plan-and-execute, self-reflection, layered context management, and dynamic tool orchestration
- Strong Python skills and comfort with the modern AI stack (LLM APIs, embeddings, orchestration frameworks, observability tools)
- Experience building systems that handle sensitive data in regulated environments
Bonus Points
- Experience with healthcare, life sciences, insurance, or clinical trial data and workflows
- Familiarity with interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) or domain-specific data formats
- Experience building HIPAA-compliant or SOC 2-compliant systems
- Open-source contributions to agent tooling or AI infrastructure
