Summary:
As a Custom Software Engineer, a typical day involves designing and developing tailored software solutions that enhance various system components and applications. The role requires working closely with different teams to ensure the delivery of scalable and efficient software products. The engineer actively participates in iterative development cycles, adapting to evolving business requirements and contributing to the continuous improvement of software quality and performance. Collaboration and problem-solving are integral parts of the daily routine, ensuring that solutions meet the unique needs of the organization while maintaining high standards of reliability and usability.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on analysis and support for Mainframe programs and components, including JCL, COBOL, IMS, DB2, IMS-DB, CICS , queries, batch jobs, CA7, Palvet, PCS, Xpeditor, and mandatory IMS DB experience
- Troubleshoot production incidents by analyzing job logs, error logs, and database records.
- Support and maintain interfaces, file transfers, and integrations between Mainframe applications and other systems (via FTP, APIs, MQ, EDI or other middleware where applicable).
- Design and document technical changes for minor enhancements, reports, and modifications.
- Work with offshore/onshore development teams for code changes, unit testing, and deployment.
- Participate in performance tuning, job scheduling optimization, and housekeeping activities where required.
- Resolution and Root cause analysis of issues. recommend long term fixes.
- Deliver minor enhancements including analysis, design, testing support, and implementation coordination.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Strong hands on experience with Mainframe platform, including:
- JCL, COBOL, IMS, CICS (if applicable)
- DB2, IMS-DB, SQL, VSAM
- Job scheduling, basic system utilities
- Few minor DBA related activities
- Ability to read, analyze, and debug existing legacy code and complex batch processes.
- Experience supporting business critical applications in production environments.
- Good understanding of at least one business domain (e.g., manufacturing, supply chain, order management, distribution, or finance).
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to perform techno functional triage.
- Good communication skills to interact with business users, IT partners, and offshore teams.
- Competence in analyzing business requirements and translating them into technical specifications.
Additional Information:
- The candidate should have minimum 5 years of experience in Cobol Mainframe.
- This position is based at our Hyderabad office.
