Job Purpose
The Precast Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate quantity take-offs, cost estimates, material consumption analyses, and commercial proposals for precast concrete projects. This role involves reviewing architectural and structural drawings to determine exact requirements for precast elements, concrete, reinforcement steel, formwork, and associated civil works.
Key Responsibilities
- Quantity Take-Offs & BOQ: Compute precise quantities for precast structural elements, concrete volumes, rebar tonnage, formwork area, and embedded parts from architectural/structural drawings. Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Material Take-Offs (MTO).
- Structural Review & Detailing: Perform basic precast structural calculations and reinforcement detailing checks to ensure designs align with standard manufacturing and erection practices.
- Costing & Proposals: Calculate full project and product-level costs, factoring in raw materials, production labor, logistics, and site installation expenses to support commercial bids.
- Drawing Review & Analysis: Review client-provided drawings, identify engineering discrepancies or missing details, and send Requests for Information (RFIs) when necessary.
- Cost Optimization: Conduct value engineering and material consumption analysis to minimize wastage and suggest cost-effective design or material alternatives.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with the precast factory production team, structural detailing team, and site erection engineers to align estimates with actual execution constraints.
- Drafting & Documentation: Assist in preparing preliminary structural and product layout drawings for estimation approvals using AutoCAD.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Civil Engineering.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years in civil estimation, quantity surveying, structural steel/concrete detailing, or precast concrete construction. (Prior precast experience strongly preferred).
Technical & Professional Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD and advanced MS Excel for quantity take-offs and data modeling.
- Strong knowledge of RCC design, structural reinforcement detailing, and precast element fabrication/erection workflows.
- Ability to interpret complex architectural and structural drawings accurately.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and cost-analysis skills.
