Key Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspection of welded valve components during fit-up, welding, and final stages.
- Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications.
- Inspect machined valve bodies, bonnets, discs, seats, and other pressure-retaining components for dimensional and weld quality.
- Review engineering drawings, material specifications, and customer quality requirements.
- Conduct fit-up inspections before welding and monitor welding parameters during production.
- Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities such as PT, MT, RT, and UT, and review test reports.
- Ensure traceability of materials, welds, consumables, and inspection records.
- Perform dimensional inspection using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
- Verify heat treatment records, hardness testing, and Positive Material Identification (PMI) reports where applicable.
- Prepare inspection reports, punch lists, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and quality documentation.
- Participate in customer inspections, third-party inspections, and internal quality audits.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, customer specifications, and company quality procedures.
- Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Work closely with production, machining, welding, planning, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), CSWIP 3.1, or equivalent certification preferred.
- ASNT Level II certification in PT/MT/UT/RT is an added advantage.
- 3–8 years of experience in quality inspection within a valve manufacturing or heavy engineering machine shop.
- Experience with pressure-containing components and welding inspections.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of welding processes including GTAW (TIG), SMAW, GMAW (MIG), and SAW.
- Familiarity with ASME Section IX, ASME Section V, API 6D, API 600, API 602, API 609, and relevant ASTM material standards.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proficiency in dimensional inspection and precision measuring instruments.
- Understanding of NDT methods and acceptance criteria.
- Knowledge of material traceability, calibration requirements, and quality documentation.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
