Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Support:
- Provide individual or group tutoring sessions for students in various subjects, as needed.
- Assist students with study skills, time management, and test preparation.
- Help students improve academic performance through guidance on assignments, projects, and exam preparation.
- Promote academic achievement and encourage students to seek help when necessary.
- Student Development:
- Serve as a mentor and role model for students, offering guidance on academic, personal, and social issues.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages student engagement and personal growth.
- Develop and facilitate workshops or study groups to promote skills like critical thinking, writing, and time management.
- Residence Life Engagement:
- Actively participate in the residential community by organizing events and activities that support academic and social development.
- Be available to students for one-on-one meetings, offering guidance on academic, personal, and social matters.
- Maintain regular office hours in the residence hall for student accessibility.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Observe and track students' academic progress and wellbeing, reporting concerns to the Residence Life office or relevant academic departments as needed.
- Ensure that students follow the academic policies and codes of conduct established by the institution.
- Assist with student academic progress reports and assessments.
- Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with students, faculty, and residential staff to ensure academic needs are being met.
- Support faculty and academic advisors in addressing student academic performance and challenges.
- Participate in regular meetings with residential life staff to discuss student issues, upcoming programs, and initiatives.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist in maintaining records of student attendance, participation, and performance in tutoring sessions and other academic support programs.
- Help organize and execute residential and academic events such as study nights, guest speakers, and academic workshops.
- Conflict Resolution and Mediation:
- Address conflicts between students in the residence hall, providing mediation when necessary.
- Offer support in resolving academic or social issues, referring students to appropriate campus services when needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: Must be a t graduate with strong academic standing
- Experience: Previous tutoring or teaching experience is preferred, but not always required.
- Subject Expertise: Strong knowledge in the subjects you will be tutoring. Expertise in specific academic areas may be required (e.g., math, science, writing).
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with students and staff.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Ability to lead and mentor students in both academic and personal development.
- Organization Skills: Ability to manage time effectively and juggle tutoring, mentoring, and administrative duties.
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address student academic and personal challenges.
Work Environment:
- The role is typically based in a residential
- May involve one-on-one tutoring sessions, group study sessions, and participation in dormitory activities and events.
- Requires regular interaction with students outside the classroom, often in informal settings.
