Portfolios Covered
The role supports the firm's proprietary trading books across:
- Listed equities on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE)
- Listed equities on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
- US listed equities (NYSE, NASDAQ)
- US listed equity options (CBOE and other US options exchanges)
- Cash, money market instruments, and associated FX exposures (LKR, INR, USD)
Key Responsibilities
Valuation and NAV
- Produce daily and month-end valuations for all trading portfolios, including mark-to-market of equities and listed options
- Calculate and report daily P&L, split between realised and unrealised, trading and FX translation
- Prepare P&L attribution by desk, market, strategy, and asset class
- Maintain and apply the firm's pricing and fair value hierarchy policy, including sourcing and validating independent price feeds
Trade Capture and Reconciliation
- Capture and verify trades from the order management system through to the general ledger
- Perform daily reconciliations of positions, cash, and margin against broker, custodian, and clearing statements
- Investigate and clear breaks promptly, escalating unresolved items to the desk and to Finance
- Monitor settlement across CSE, NSE/BSE, and US markets, including differing settlement cycles and time zones
Corporate Actions and Options Events
- Track, calculate, and book corporate actions (dividends, bonus issues, rights issues, splits, mergers, buybacks) across all markets
- Process options lifecycle events, including premium recognition, expiry, exercise, assignment, and adjustment for corporate actions
- Reconcile dividend and interest receivables, and account for withholding tax across jurisdictions
Reporting and Close
- Own the month-end close for the trading entities, including journals, accruals, and supporting schedules
- Prepare management reporting packs covering performance, exposure, turnover, and brokerage and transaction costs
- Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with [IFRS / applicable local GAAP] and liaise with external auditors
- Support tax, regulatory, and internal compliance reporting requirements
Controls and Process
- Maintain accurate books and records and a clear audit trail for all trading activity
- Monitor positions against internal risk limits and report exceptions to the desk and management
- Identify and implement improvements to reconciliation, reporting, and close processes, including automation of manual work
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in fund accounting, portfolio accounting, investment operations, or middle office, ideally with a fund administrator, asset manager, broker, or family office
- Hands-on experience accounting for listed equities and listed derivatives, including mark-to-market valuation and P&L production
- Working knowledge of multi-currency accounting and FX translation
- Fully or part-qualified accountant — CA, CIMA, ACCA, or CPA; CFA candidacy is an advantage
- Sound understanding of IFRS as applied to financial instruments (including IFRS 9 and IFRS 13), or equivalent local standards
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with portfolio accounting, fund administration, or order management systems
- Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, and the discipline to meet daily reporting deadlines
- Ability to communicate clearly with traders, auditors, and management, and to hold a position when numbers are challenged
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience accounting for US listed options, including premium, expiry, assignment, and margin treatment
- Familiarity with CSE, SEC Sri Lanka, SEBI, or US market structure, settlement, and reporting conventions
- Exposure to trading system integrations, data feeds, or reporting automation (SQL, Python, or Power BI)
- Experience supporting external audit and statutory reporting for an investment entity
