Job Title: Quality Head Engineer – Steel Melting Plant
Job Summary:
The Quality Head Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of steel produced throughout the melting process. This role oversees quality control activities from raw material inspection to molten steel production, casting, and finished product inspection. The position focuses on maintaining compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and quality management systems while driving continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures for the steel melting process.
- Monitor the quality of raw materials, scrap, alloys, fluxes, and other inputs.
- Ensure proper control of furnace operations, chemical composition, temperature, and slag practices.
- Review and approve laboratory test results, including chemical analysis and mechanical testing.
- Monitor casting quality and investigate defects such as inclusions, porosity, cracks, and segregation.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer and industry standards.
- Coordinate internal and external quality audits.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and laboratory teams to improve process capability and product quality.
- Manage customer complaints, quality documentation, and inspection records.
- Train and mentor quality engineers, inspectors, and laboratory personnel.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC, 8D, and other quality tools.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering.
- 8–15 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control in a steel melting plant.
- Strong knowledge of induction furnace or electric arc furnace (EAF) operations, ladle metallurgy, continuous casting, and steel metallurgy.
- Experience with spectrometer analysis, metallurgical testing, and quality management systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ASTM, IS, DIN, or other applicable steel standards.
