Position Summary
The Mess Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the college hostel mess, ensuring hygienic food preparation, quality service, inventory control, cost management, staff supervision, and compliance with food safety standards. The role involves maintaining student satisfaction while ensuring smooth day-to-day mess operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Mess Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the hostel mess.
- Ensure timely preparation and serving of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
- Monitor food quality, taste, hygiene, and portion control.
- Ensure uninterrupted food service for students and staff.
2. Menu Planning
- Plan nutritious and balanced menus in consultation with the management.
- Introduce seasonal and special menus whenever required.
- Ensure variety in meals while maintaining budgetary guidelines.
3. Food Safety & Hygiene
- Ensure compliance with FSSAI guidelines and food safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, dining hall, storage areas, and utensils.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure hygiene standards.
- Ensure proper waste management and pest control.
4. Inventory & Procurement
- Monitor stock levels of groceries, vegetables, dairy products, and kitchen supplies.
- Coordinate procurement and vendor management.
- Verify quality and quantity of materials received.
- Maintain stock registers and inventory records.
- Minimize wastage through effective inventory management.
5. Staff Management
- Supervise cooks, kitchen assistants, helpers, cleaners, and serving staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and monitor attendance.
- Provide training on hygiene, food safety, and customer service.
- Ensure discipline and productivity among mess staff.
6. Budget & Cost Control
- Monitor food costs and operational expenses.
- Control wastage and ensure cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Prepare monthly consumption and expenditure reports.
- Coordinate with accounts for bill verification and vendor payments.
7. Student Relations
- Address student complaints and suggestions regarding food quality and service.
- Conduct periodic feedback sessions to improve student satisfaction.
- Ensure prompt resolution of grievances.
8. Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain daily attendance, consumption, and stock reports.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and statutory requirements.
- Submit periodic operational reports to the Hostel Warden/Administration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Hospitality Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 3–8 years of experience in hostel mess, institutional catering, hotels, hospitals, or industrial canteens.
- Experience in handling large-scale food operations is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and inventory management.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position with rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.

Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in educational institutions, universities, engineering colleges, medical colleges, hospitals, industrial canteens, or large catering organizations will be preferred.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
