Senior PCB Design Engineer (Electronics)

About Us
TocDem designs and manufactures specialist equipment for the construction and utility industries. As we continue to develop new electronic products and control systems, we are looking for an experienced PCB Design Engineer who can take complete ownership of electronic hardware projects from concept through to production.
This is not a PCB layout or drafting role. We require someone who can independently design complete electronic systems with minimal supervision.
The Role
You will be responsible for the complete design and development of printed circuit boards and associated electronics for new products.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Electronic circuit design
- Schematic capture
- PCB layout
- Component selection
- Prototype development and testing
- Debugging and fault finding
- Design improvements
- Producing manufacturing documentation
- Creating Gerber files, BOMs and Pick & Place files
- Liaising with PCB manufacturers and assembly houses
- Supporting products through to production
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' commercial PCB design experience
- Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) or similar
- Proven experience designing multi-layer PCBs (4, 6, 8+ layers)
- Experience taking products from concept through to manufacture
- Strong knowledge of:
- PCB stack-up design
- High-speed digital layouts
- Mixed analogue/digital circuits
- Signal integrity
- EMI/EMC reduction
- Thermal management
- Power supply design
- Grounding techniques
- Controlled impedance
- Differential pair routing
- Design for Manufacture (DFM)
- Design for Assembly (DFA)
- IPC standards
Software Experience
Applicants must be proficient in one or more of:
- Altium Designer (preferred)
- KiCad
- Cadence Allegro
- Mentor Graphics/Xpedition
- Autodesk Eagle
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- STM32
- ARM Cortex
- ESP32
- Microchip PIC
- CAN Bus
- RS485
- USB
- Ethernet
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi
- Battery-powered devices
- DC/DC power supplies
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is capable of working independently, solving engineering problems and taking ownership of projects. You should be comfortable making design decisions and developing reliable, production-ready hardware.
