Role Overview
We are looking for a Commis 1 who can support the kitchen with discipline, consistency, and a strong respect for prep and hygiene.
This role is for someone who understands that good service starts long before plating. Meat handling, mise en place, station discipline, cleanliness, and following process properly all matter here.
You will work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to keep prep, handling, and service support sharp and reliable.
This is an important early-stage role inside a kitchen that wants to build real standards from day one.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Assist with day-to-day kitchen prep and basic production tasks
- Handle meat, vegetables, sauces, and other ingredients carefully and correctly
- Support prep for smoked meats, grill work, and service mise en place
- Maintain hygiene, cleanliness, and station organisation at all times
- Follow instructions from the Head Chef and senior kitchen team with consistency
- Help with portioning, storage, labelling, and stock rotation
- Support kitchen opening, service, and closing routines
- Keep equipment, surfaces, and prep areas clean and service-ready
What We’re Looking For
- 1-2 years of experience in a restaurant or relevant kitchen setup is preferred
- Basic understanding of meat handling, prep work, and hygiene
- Willingness to learn smokehouse systems, prep discipline, and kitchen standards
- Ability to work cleanly, quickly, and with attention to detail
- Good attitude, reliability, and respect for team structure
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, hands-on kitchen environment
- Basic knowledge of food safety and kitchen cleanliness
- A culinary course or hotel management background is a plus, but practical skill and work ethic matter more than paper
