The Draftsman will be the backbone of DAM's design documentation function. You will translate lighting design concepts into accurate, professional drawings, layouts, and presentation visuals using AutoCAD, Photoshop, and other industry tools. You will work closely with lighting designers, project coordinators, and architects to produce deliverables that are both technically precise and visually compelling.
The ideal candidate is fast, meticulous, and deeply comfortable across multiple design and drafting software platforms. Experience in the lighting industry is a significant advantage — but exceptional software skills and a strong drafting portfolio from any built environment industry will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lighting layout drawings (AutoCAD)
- Prepare detailed lighting layout drawings — fixture positions, mounting heights, circuit layouts, and zoning plans
- Draft reflected ceiling plans (RCP) incorporating lighting fixture placement as per design intent
- Produce electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for lighting circuits
- Revise and update drawings based on design changes, client feedback, and site conditions
- Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, scale, and drafting standards
2. Lux mapping & design documentation
- Integrate lux mapping outputs (from DIALux or similar tools) into drawing sets
- Prepare fixture schedules, BOQ drawings, and product specification sheets
- Document as-built drawings post-installation for handover packages
- Maintain organised, version-controlled drawing registers for all active projects
3. Visual presentations (Photoshop & rendering tools)
- Create mood boards, lighting concept visuals, and before-after presentation graphics for client pitches
- Retouch and enhance project photographs for presentations and portfolio use
- Produce rendered visuals overlaying lighting effects on architectural plans or photographs
- Design professionally formatted PDF presentations, proposals, and project reports
4. Coordination with design & project teams
- Work closely with lighting designers to interpret design intent and convert to accurate technical drawings
- Coordinate with architects and interior designers to align drawings with their CAD files and drawing conventions
- Attend site visits when required to verify drawings against actual site conditions
- Support the project coordinator in preparing client-ready drawing packages
5. File & drawing management
- Maintain a structured library of all project drawings, templates, and assets
- Manage CAD blocks/symbols library for lighting fixtures — updating as new products are added
- Convert and prepare drawings in required formats — DWG, PDF, DXF, JPG — for different stakeholders
- Ensure all drawings are saved, backed up, and shared via organised folder structures
