Logistics control tower - SKF Automotive Business
We are in the process of identifying a suitable candidate for the role of Logistics control tower. This role will be based in Pune (MIDC Chakan) and will report to the Head - Warehouse & Logistics, India.
Purpose of the role:
The role of a logistics control tower provides end-to-end visibility and centralized coordination of supply chain operations, enabling real-time monitoring of shipments, proactive risk management, and seamless collaboration across stakeholders.
Key responsibilities (or What you can expect in the role)
Supply Chain Visibility & Monitoring
- Oversee real-time shipment tracking using platforms like SAP TM, 4Kites, or similar visibility tools.
- Ensure On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance and adherence to transit schedules.
Risk & Exception Management
- Identify potential disruptions, implement countermeasures, and escalate issues proactively.
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring logistics challenges.
Operational Excellence
- Manage control tower team operations across multiple time zones.
- Develop and maintain MIS reports, dashboards, and KPIs (cost-per-shipment, transit adherence, SLA compliance).
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Liaise with carriers, 3PLs, warehouses, and business units.
- Support customer operations with transport optimization and GPS/vendor management.
Continuous Improvement
- Champion automation, process optimization, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Lead structured improvement projects to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Fleet Management: Oversee daily operations of trucks and vehicles, ensuring optimal utilization and maintenance.
- Route Planning: Develop efficient transport schedules and routes to minimize delays and costs.
- Fuel & Cost Monitoring: Track fuel consumption, manage shortages, and optimize logistics expenses.
- Delivery Coordination: Ensure timely dispatch and delivery of goods, monitoring lead times and resolving delays.
- Compliance: Maintain adherence to transport regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with suppliers, drivers, and clients to ensure smooth operations.
- Reporting: Prepare regular reports on fleet usage, transport costs, and performance metrics.
- Problem-Solving: Address operational challenges such as fuel shortages, vehicle breakdowns, or route disruptions.
Requirements (or We expect you to have/be)
- Having 5 to 10 years of experience, having strong knowledge of logistics and transport operations.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including advanced Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and resolve conflicts.
- Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) or ERP tools.
- Analytical mindset for cost control and efficiency improvement.
- Good communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate with customers, coworkers and suppliers
- Relevant academic background (any UG Degree), Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
- Prior experience in fleet (FTL / PTL) or transport coordination is an advantage
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, as the role involves working in a cross functional team.
