Job Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other clinical specimens from patients using safe and accurate techniques. The role involves ensuring patient comfort, maintaining specimen integrity, following infection control protocols, and coordinating with the laboratory for timely processing of samples.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples through venipuncture, finger prick, and heel prick (where applicable).
- Verify patient identity before specimen collection.
- Explain the blood collection procedure and reassure anxious patients.
- Label specimens accurately with patient details.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of samples to the laboratory.
- Follow infection prevention and biomedical waste disposal guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of phlebotomy equipment and work areas.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions such as dizziness or fainting during or after blood collection.
- Record patient information accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or CRM.
- Coordinate with laboratory technicians regarding sample requirements.
- Manage inventory of collection tubes, needles, syringes, gloves, and other consumables.
- Perform home blood collection visits when assigned.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare regulations.
- Follow quality standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in health camps, corporate screening programs, and outreach activities when required.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy, DMLT, MLT, or a related allied health qualification.
- 1– 3 years of experience (Freshers with practical training may also apply).
- Certification in phlebotomy is an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Excellent venipuncture and blood collection skills.
- Good communication and patient-handling abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of infection control and biosafety practices.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Basic computer knowledge for patient registration and documentation.
- Teamwork and professional ethics.
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
