We work closely with brands and retail buyers to take products from concept and digital development to physical samples and bulk production.
About the Role
We are looking for a Product Development (PD) Merchandiser who can take ownership of the product development process from the initial buyer brief/design concept through fabric development, costing, sampling, revisions and final approval.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of knits and woven fabrics, garment construction, sampling and costing, and should be comfortable coordinating with design, sourcing, pattern, sampling and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand buyer briefs, tech packs, sketches, references and product requirements.
- Coordinate the complete product development process from concept to approval.
- Source and develop suitable knit and woven fabrics as per design requirements.
- Coordinate fabric development, swatches, lab dips, GSM, composition, width and shrinkage requirements.
- Work closely with the design, fabric sourcing, pattern and sampling teams to develop new styles.
- Prepare and maintain accurate garment consumption and costing.
- Coordinate proto, fit, size set and pre-production samples.
- Follow up on buyer comments and ensure timely revisions and resubmissions.
- Coordinate printing, embroidery, washing, trims and other value additions required for development.
- Maintain development trackers and ensure samples are delivered within agreed timelines.
- Liaise with buyers/brands regarding development status, approvals and comments.
- Maintain a database of developed fabrics, styles, consumption, costing and supplier information.
- Ensure approved products are properly handed over to the production/merchandising team for bulk execution.
What We're Looking For
- 3–6 years of experience in apparel product development / merchandising.
- Strong understanding of both knit and woven garments.
- Good knowledge of fabric qualities, GSM, construction, shrinkage and consumption.
- Strong understanding of garment construction and sampling.
- Experience in garment costing and consumption calculation.
- Good understanding of printing, embroidery, washing and other garment processes.
- Strong follow-up and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple developments simultaneously.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with brands, retailers or buying houses will be preferred.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, commercially aware and development-oriented—someone who doesn't just follow up on samples but understands why a garment is being developed, how it should be made, what fabric should be used, what it should cost and how to get it approved quickly.
