Job Summary
The Duty Medical Officer will be responsible for providing medical supervision and clinical support to patients receiving rehabilitation services at Breeze Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Centre.
The DMO will assess patients' medical status, monitor their condition during rehabilitation, manage acute medical issues within the scope of practice, coordinate with rehabilitation professionals, maintain accurate medical records, and ensure appropriate escalation or referral when required.
The role requires close coordination with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, nurses, rehabilitation physicians, consultants, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Patient Assessment
- Conduct initial medical assessment of patients as assigned.
- Review medical history, previous diagnoses, investigations, medications, allergies, and relevant clinical records.
- Assess vital signs and general medical condition.
- Identify medical conditions or risk factors that may affect rehabilitation.
- Determine whether the patient is medically fit to participate in planned rehabilitation activities.
- Identify red-flag symptoms requiring urgent medical attention or specialist referral.
B. Medical Monitoring During Rehabilitation
- Monitor patients' medical condition during their stay at the rehabilitation centre.
- Review patients who develop new symptoms, deterioration, pain, fever, dizziness, breathing difficulty, abnormal vital signs, or other medical concerns.
- Provide appropriate first-line medical management within professional scope.
- Advise modification, temporary suspension, or escalation of rehabilitation activities when medically indicated.
- Monitor patients with chronic illnesses and other relevant medical conditions.
C. Emergency & First-Line Medical Care
- Attend to medical emergencies occurring within the centre.
- Provide immediate first aid and basic emergency medical management.
- Assess the severity of the patient's condition and arrange timely transfer to an appropriate hospital when required.
- Maintain and periodically review emergency procedures and escalation protocols.
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of essential emergency equipment and supplies in coordination with management.
- Document all significant medical incidents and interventions.
D. Medication Management
- Review patients' existing medication history.
- Prescribe or modify medications only within the doctor's professional scope and applicable laws.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and medication-related concerns.
- Coordinate with nursing/front-office staff regarding medication schedules where applicable.
- Ensure medication-related instructions are properly documented.
- Escalate complex medication issues to the appropriate specialist.
E. Coordination With Rehabilitation Team
The DMO will work closely with the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team to ensure medically appropriate rehabilitation.
This includes coordination with:
- Physiotherapists
- Occupational therapists
- Speech and language therapists
- Psychologists
- Nurses
- Rehabilitation specialists
- Dietitians, where applicable
- Other consulting specialists
The DMO should communicate relevant medical precautions, contraindications, restrictions, and changes in the patient's medical condition to the treating team.
3. Patient Review & Follow-Up
- Conduct regular medical reviews as required.
- Review progress and changes in medical status.
- Identify complications or barriers affecting rehabilitation.
- Recommend investigations or specialist consultations when clinically appropriate.
- Communicate significant findings to the treating consultant/Medical Director and patient's authorized attendant where appropriate.
- Ensure continuity of medical care.
4. Medical Documentation
The DMO is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, including:
- Medical assessment notes
- Progress notes
- Vital signs
- Medication records
- Medical advice
- Emergency interventions
- Referral notes
- Investigation requests and reports
- Discharge/transfer documentation
- Incident reports, where applicable
All patient records must be maintained confidentially and in accordance with applicable healthcare and data-protection requirements.
5. Investigations & Referrals
- Recommend appropriate laboratory or diagnostic investigations when clinically indicated.
- Review investigation reports relevant to the patient's condition.
- Refer patients to specialists or hospitals when the clinical condition requires care beyond the centre's capabilities.
- Coordinate emergency or planned hospital transfers when required.
- Maintain proper referral documentation.
6. Infection Prevention & Patient Safety
- Follow the centre's infection-prevention and control policies.
- Promote safe clinical practices among staff.
- Identify and report suspected infectious conditions.
- Ensure appropriate precautions are taken when required.
- Participate in patient-safety and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Report adverse events and significant clinical incidents according to centre policy.
7. Multidisciplinary Team Meetings
- Participate in case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Provide medical input into rehabilitation goals and treatment planning.
- Discuss medical limitations and precautions with therapists.
- Review complex or high-risk cases with the Medical Director or relevant specialist.
8. Communication With Patients & Attendants
- Explain relevant medical findings and treatment recommendations in clear language.
- Provide appropriate health education to patients and caregivers.
- Explain warning signs that require urgent medical attention.
- Maintain professional, respectful, and compassionate communication.
- Protect patient confidentiality at all times.
9. Quality & Compliance
The DMO shall:
- Follow applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and institutional policies.
- Maintain appropriate medical records.
- Follow ethical medical practices.
- Practice only within the scope of professional registration and competence.
- Participate in audits, quality-improvement programmes, and clinical reviews.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Follow the centre's policies relating to patient safety, emergency management, infection control, and documentation.
10. Qualifications
Essential:
- MBBS degree from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Medical Council / National Medical Commission as required by law.
- Ability to independently assess and manage common medical conditions within the scope of practice.
Preferred:
- Experience in a hospital, rehabilitation centre, nursing home, emergency department, or clinical setting.
- Additional qualification or experience in rehabilitation medicine, general medicine, emergency care, geriatrics, neurology, orthopaedics, or related areas.
11. Experience
Preferred: 1–3 years of clinical experience.
Doctors with relevant internship/clinical experience and appropriate registration may be considered depending on the centre's requirements.

14. Working Hours
Working Hours: As per the duty roster of Breeze Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Centre.
The DMO may be required to attend to urgent medical situations during assigned duty hours and participate in emergency/on-call arrangements where specifically applicable.
Pay: ₹20,827.74 - ₹35,205.23 per month
