Job Description – Tool Maker (Mould & Press Tools)
Position: Tool Maker
Department: Tool Room / Manufacturing
Location: Coimbatore
Experience: 3–8 Years
Qualification: Diploma in Tool & Die Making / Tool Engineering / NTTF Graduate Preferred / ITI Tool & Die Maker with relevant experience. NTTF graduates are preferred due to their training in press tools, mould technology, CAD/CAM, CNC machining, and tool manufacturing.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Tool Maker with hands-on experience in moulds, press tools, tool maintenance, and vendor coordination. The candidate will be responsible for manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of moulds and press tools while coordinating with external vendors for machining, heat treatment, coatings, and tool components.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture, assemble, and maintain moulds, dies, press tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Perform tool trials, prove-outs, corrections, and modifications.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and minimize production downtime.
- Handle preventive and breakdown maintenance of moulds and press tools.
- Coordinate with vendors for machining, heat treatment, surface treatment, and outsourced tooling activities.
- Follow up with vendors on delivery schedules and quality requirements.
- Inspect incoming tooling components and ensure compliance with drawings.
- Work closely with production, quality, and design teams for continuous improvement.
- Maintain tool history records and spare part inventory.
- Support new product development and tool validation activities.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of moulds, press tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Experience in tool assembly, fitting, grinding, and machining processes.
- Understanding of CNC machining, EDM, Wire Cut, and conventional tool room machines.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and tool designs.
- Vendor management and supplier coordination experience.
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment, and surface coatings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualification
- NTTF Diploma in Tool Engineering & Digital Manufacturing / Tool & Die Making.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Tool & Die specialization).
- ITI Tool & Die Maker with relevant industry experience.
Salary
As per industry standards and experience.
