Job Summary
A Physician Assistant provides high-quality patient care by examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications (where authorized), and assisting in surgical procedures. They collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient interviews and perform physical examinations.
- Obtain and document medical histories.
- Diagnose and treat common illnesses and injuries.
- Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
- Develop and implement treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and therapies according to local regulations.
- Assist physicians during surgical and medical procedures.
- Provide preventive healthcare, health education, and counseling.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide urgent care when required.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (minimum); many positions require a master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Valid Physician Assistant license or certification as required by the country or state.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and clinical practice.
