About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Virtual Radiology Assistant to support a US based radiology department by managing administrative, documentation, and coordination tasks remotely. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of medical terminology, imaging workflows, and healthcare documentation standards who can help radiologists and technologists work more efficiently without needing to be on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize incoming imaging orders (X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) in the RIS/PACS system
- Verify patient demographics, insurance details, and physician referral information for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare, organize, and route radiology reports to referring physicians in a timely manner
- Transcribe or proofread dictated radiology reports for accuracy, grammar, and formatting
- Coordinate scheduling of imaging appointments and follow-up studies
- Communicate with physicians, and staff via phone or email
- Track and follow up on pending/incomplete studies, missing reports, or unsigned documentation
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other relevant healthcare privacy regulations
- Retrieve and upload prior imaging studies from outside facilities
- Support quality assurance by flagging discrepancies in reports or patient records
- Perform general administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and correspondence
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or a related field preferred
- 1+ years of experience in a radiology, medical imaging, or healthcare administrative role
- Familiarity with RIS (Radiology Information Systems) and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly radiology and anatomy
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Google Workspace and virtual communication tools
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, HIPAA-compliant home workspace
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medical transcription or dictation software
- Prior experience working remotely in a healthcare setting
- Basic understanding of CPT/ICD-10 coding related to imaging procedures
