Position: Tyre Supervisor
Location: Electric Bus Depot, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Depot Manager / Workshop Manager
Job Purpose
To manage and oversee all tyre-related operations for the electric bus fleet, ensuring optimal tyre performance, safety, and cost-efficiency through proper inspection, maintenance, rotation, and replacement practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily tyre inspection of all electric buses before they go into service (tread depth, pressure, cuts, bulges, uneven wear)
- Plan and execute tyre rotation schedules to maximize tyre life and ensure even wear across axles
- Maintain accurate records of tyre history — fitment date, kilometers run, rotation, retreading, and replacement — for each vehicle
- Coordinate procurement of new tyres and tubes, and manage stock/inventory of tyres, tubes, and related consumables
- Ensure correct tyre pressure is maintained as per manufacturer specifications, especially important for EV buses due to their heavier battery weight
- Identify and remove tyres unfit for further use; coordinate condemnation and disposal as per depot policy
- Supervise a team of tyre fitters/technicians and allocate daily work
- Investigate cases of abnormal or premature tyre wear and recommend corrective action (alignment, balancing, suspension checks)
- Ensure wheel alignment and wheel balancing are carried out at prescribed intervals
- Liaise with tyre manufacturers/vendors for warranty claims, technical support, and bulk supply agreements
- Maintain safety standards and ensure PPE compliance among tyre-fitting staff
- Prepare MIS reports on tyre consumption, cost per km, and performance for management review
- Ensure compliance with depot SOPs and statutory/safety regulations
Required Qualifications
- ITI/Diploma in Automobile Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- Prior experience in tyre management for commercial vehicles/bus fleets (electric bus experience is a plus)
- Familiarity with tyre types used in heavy vehicles (radial, tubeless) and retreading processes
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of tyre specifications, wear patterns, and maintenance practices
- Team supervision and manpower management skills
- Basic computer skills for inventory/record-keeping (Excel or fleet management software)
- Good communication skills to coordinate with vendors, drivers, and depot management
Experience
- Minimum 2–4 years of relevant experience in tyre supervision, preferably with a bus/transport corporation or large commercial fleet operator
Pay: ₹14,208.00 - ₹16,200.00 per month
