JOB DESCRIPTION – SAFETY OFFICER
Position: Safety Officer
Department: Safety / EHS
Location: Production Plant
Reporting To: Plant Head / HR & Administration / EHS Head
Experience: 2–5 Years in Manufacturing / Engineering / Production Industry
Job Purpose
To ensure a safe working environment throughout the production plant by implementing safety policies, conducting inspections and training, identifying hazards, preventing accidents, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities1. Plant Safety & Compliance
- Implement and monitor company safety policies, procedures and SOPs.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of production areas, machinery, electrical systems, material handling and workstations.
- Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and ensure corrective action.
- Ensure proper use of PPE such as safety helmets, shoes, gloves, goggles, ear protection and safety belts.
- Monitor compliance with statutory safety requirements and company safety standards.
2. Production & Machine Safety
- Ensure machine guards and safety devices are properly installed and maintained.
- Monitor safe operating procedures for production machinery.
- Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed during maintenance.
- Control risks related to welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, lifting and material handling activities.
- Ensure safe movement and storage of raw materials and finished products.
3. Permit & High-Risk Work
- Issue and monitor permits for high-risk activities such as:
- Hot Work
- Work at Height
- Confined Space Entry
- Electrical Work
- Lifting Operations
- Excavation, wherever applicable
- Verify that necessary precautions are in place before work starts.
4. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety induction for new employees, contract workers and visitors.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety training.
- Organize emergency response, fire safety and evacuation drills.
- Create safety awareness among production workers and supervisors.
5. Accident & Incident Management
- Immediately respond to accidents, near misses and unsafe incidents.
- Conduct accident/incident investigations and identify root causes.
- Prepare incident reports and recommend preventive/corrective actions.
- Maintain records of accidents, near misses, safety observations and corrective actions.
6. Fire & Emergency Safety
- Inspect fire extinguishers, hydrants, fire alarms and emergency equipment regularly.
- Ensure emergency exits and evacuation routes remain clear.
- Coordinate mock drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Ensure workers know emergency procedures and assembly points.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily/weekly/monthly safety inspection reports.
- Maintain PPE records, training records, incident reports and safety observation reports.
- Prepare monthly EHS/Safety performance reports.
- Track pending corrective actions and ensure timely closure.
8. Contractor & Visitor Safety
- Ensure contractors comply with plant safety rules.
- Verify contractor PPE and safety documentation.
- Conduct contractor safety induction.
- Monitor contractor activities and take immediate action against unsafe practices.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of industrial safety practices.
- Knowledge of PPE, fire safety and emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Good communication and training skills.
- Ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel, Word and safety reporting.
- Strong observation, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Qualification
- Diploma / Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Industrial Safety Diploma / ADIS / NEBOSH / IOSH certification will be an advantage.

Preferred Candidate
Candidate should have practical experience in a manufacturing/production plant, be confident in dealing with workers and supervisors, and have the ability to stop unsafe work and ensure corrective action immediately
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
