Job Summary
The Ward Incharge is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and supervision of nursing activities within the assigned ward. The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care through effective leadership, staffing, clinical supervision, compliance with hospital policies, infection control measures, patient safety initiatives, and continuous quality improvement.
Daily ResponsibilitiesClinical Management
- Supervise and coordinate nursing care for all admitted patients.
- Ensure timely assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
- Monitor patients requiring critical observation.
- Ensure timely medication administration.
- Verify doctor's orders and ensure implementation.
- Participate in ward rounds with consultants.
- Escalate abnormal patient conditions immediately.
- Ensure emergency preparedness within the ward.
- Monitor pain management and patient comfort.
- Ensure proper documentation in nursing records.
Staff Management
- Allocate nursing assignments according to patient acuity.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and discipline.
- Supervise Staff Nurses and Nursing Assistants.
- Guide newly joined nurses.
- Provide bedside teaching.
- Ensure adequate staffing during each shift.
- Coordinate shift handover effectively.
Patient Safety
- Ensure patient identification before any procedure.
- Prevent medication errors.
- Monitor fall prevention practices.
- Ensure safe patient transfer.
- Ensure proper consent documentation.
- Monitor adverse event reporting.
- Ensure implementation of patient safety goals.
Infection Control
- Monitor hand hygiene compliance.
- Ensure PPE usage.
- Supervise biomedical waste segregation.
- Monitor isolation precautions.
- Ensure environmental cleanliness.
- Coordinate infection surveillance activities.
Ward Administration
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs.
- Check crash cart readiness.
