- Job Description: Mechanical Engineer (Hydraulic Cylinder Engineer)
The Hydraulic Cylinder Engineer is responsible for the design, development, optimization, and technical oversight of hydraulic cylinder products used in industrial and mobile equipment applications. This role combines engineering design expertise with manufacturing support to ensure products meet performance, quality, cost, and safety requirements. The engineer works closely with production, quality, and sales teams to deliver reliable hydraulic solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Engineering
- Design hydraulic cylinders (tie-rod, welded, telescopic, mill-type) based on customer requirements and application data.
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, including bills of materials (BOMs).
- Perform engineering calculations related to pressure ratings, stress analysis, buckling, load capacity, seal selection, and fatigue life.
- Select appropriate materials, seals (O-rings, U-cups, wipers), coatings, and surface finishes.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASME, NFPA, etc.).
2. Technical Analysis & Validation
- Conduct hydraulic performance calculations (pressure, flow, force, speed).
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and fit verification.
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation.
- Analyze test data and implement design improvements.
- Troubleshoot product failures and implement corrective actions.
3. Manufacturing Support
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize assembly processes.
- Review and approve machining processes and fabrication methods.
- Provide technical guidance for machining, honing, welding, and assembly.
- Assist in resolving shop-floor technical issues.
- Develop work instructions and engineering change notices (ECNs).
