Mechanical Design Engineer – Sheet Metal
Job Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in sheet metal design to develop commercial kitchen equipment and food processing machines. The ideal candidate should be proficient in creating 3D models, sheet metal developments, fabrication drawings, and production-ready designs using CAD software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design stainless steel sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Create 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Prepare sheet metal flat patterns for laser cutting, CNC punching, and bending.
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) and fabrication drawings.
- Select suitable sheet thickness, materials, and standard hardware.
- Coordinate with laser cutting, bending, fabrication, welding, and assembly teams.
- Ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
- Modify and improve existing machine designs based on production and customer feedback.
- Maintain design documentation, revision history, and engineering records.
- Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (Sheet Metal Module) and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, CNC bending, TIG welding, and stainless steel fabrication.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and fabrication standards.
- Ability to prepare production-ready drawings and flat patterns.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 1–5 years of experience in sheet metal design.
- Freshers with strong SolidWorks Sheet Metal skills may also apply.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in designing commercial kitchen equipment, food processing machines, stainless steel fabrication, enclosures, cabinets, hoppers, work tables, sinks, trolleys, conveyors, and customized sheet metal products.
