The Senior Mechanical Lab Technician is responsible for conducting mechanical testing, inspection, validation, and analysis of orthopedic implants, instruments, raw materials, and finished products. The role ensures compliance with applicable standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality procedures while supporting product development and manufacturing activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Testing & Validation
- Perform mechanical testing of orthopedic implants and instruments, including tensile, compression, fatigue, torsion, hardness, and pull-out testing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Universal Testing Machines (UTM), hardness testers, torque testers, and fatigue testing systems.
- Prepare test samples and fixtures according to approved protocols and standards.
- Conduct validation and verification testing for new and existing products.
Inspection & Documentation
- Record, analyze, and report test results accurately.
- Prepare test reports, certificates, and validation documentation.
- Maintain laboratory records in compliance with ISO 13485 and regulatory requirements.
- Review and verify test data generated by junior technicians.
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine calibration checks and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate equipment calibration with approved external agencies.
- Ensure laboratory instruments are functioning properly and remain compliant.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure testing activities comply with ASTM, ISO, BIS, and internal quality standards.
- Support investigations related to product failures, complaints, and CAPA activities.
- Participate in audits and maintain laboratory readiness for inspections.
Team Support
- Guide and train junior lab technicians.
- Assist Quality, Manufacturing, and R&D teams with technical testing requirements.
- Support development of test methods and laboratory procedures.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in a mechanical testing laboratory.
- Preferred experience in orthopedic implants, medical devices, precision engineering, automotive, or metallurgical testing laboratories.
