Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified, passionate, and experienced English Teacher to teach students in Grades 11 and 12 under the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Cambridge IGCSE/AS & A Level Curriculum.
The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in English Language and Literature, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to fostering critical thinking, creativity, global perspectives, and academic excellence. The teacher will inspire students to become effective communicators, analytical readers, and confident writers while preparing them for success in international examinations and higher education.
Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic & Teaching Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality English Language and Literature instruction aligned with IB and Cambridge curriculum standards.
- Develop engaging lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments.
- Teach key areas including:
- Reading Comprehension
- Literary Analysis
- Creative Writing
- Academic Writing
- Language and Communication
- Media and Textual Analysis
- Poetry, Drama, Fiction, and Non-Fiction
- Oral Communication and Presentation Skills
- Research and Critical Thinking
- Promote inquiry-based and student-centered learning approaches.
- Foster appreciation for literature from diverse cultures and perspectives.
- Encourage independent learning, intellectual curiosity, and analytical thinking.
IB & IGCSE Curriculum ResponsibilitiesIB Diploma Programme (DP)
- Teach IB English A: Language and Literature and/or English A: Literature at Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL).
- Guide students in Internal Assessments (IA), Individual Oral Presentations, and examination preparation.
- Support students in developing advanced literary and linguistic analysis skills.
- Encourage intercultural understanding through the study of global texts.
Cambridge IGCSE / AS & A Level
- Deliver English Language and English Literature courses in accordance with Cambridge syllabus requirements.
- Prepare students for coursework, examinations, speaking assessments, and written components.
- Conduct revision sessions, mock examinations, and targeted intervention programs.
- Monitor and support student achievement and academic growth.
Assessment & Evaluation
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments.
- Evaluate essays, assignments, presentations, projects, and examinations.
- Provide timely, detailed, and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and academic progress.
- Analyze student performance data to improve learning outcomes.
Student Development & Mentorship
- Develop students' confidence in communication, public speaking, and critical thinking.
- Mentor students participating in literary competitions, debates, Model United Nations (MUN), and writing contests.
- Support university preparation through academic writing and research skill development.
- Encourage creativity, collaboration, and independent inquiry.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress.
Curriculum Development
- Participate in curriculum planning, review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop innovative teaching resources and learning experiences.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and academic programs.
- Stay updated on developments in English education, literature, and international curriculum requirements.
- Contribute actively to departmental and whole-school improvement efforts.
School & Professional Responsibilities
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and academic planning sessions.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Support extracurricular programs such as debate clubs, literary societies, and writing workshops.
- Uphold school policies, safeguarding requirements, and professional standards.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and stimulating learning environment.
QualificationsEssential Requirements
- Master's Degree in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Language Education, or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree with a recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, Teaching License, or equivalent).
- Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience at the secondary or higher secondary level.
- Experience teaching IB Diploma Programme and/or Cambridge IGCSE/AS & A Level curriculum.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- IB-certified training in English Language and Literature.
- Experience teaching in international schools.
- Cambridge International curriculum experience.
- Experience with online and blended learning environments.
- Experience mentoring students for international examinations and academic competitions.
