Job Summary
The Sonologist is responsible for performing and interpreting diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist in the diagnosis and management of medical conditions. The role involves providing accurate imaging reports, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and collaborating with referring physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, small parts, musculoskeletal, and other specialty scans as required.
- Prepare accurate, timely, and clinically relevant ultrasound reports.
- Review patient history and clinical indications before examinations.
- Explain procedures to patients and obtain informed consent when required.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the examination.
- Collaborate with referring physicians to discuss findings and recommend further imaging when appropriate.
- Maintain high standards of diagnostic accuracy and quality assurance.
- Ensure ultrasound equipment is properly maintained and report technical issues promptly.
- Adhere to infection prevention, radiation safety (where applicable), and hospital policies.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and continuing medical education (CME).
- Supervise and guide sonographers, technicians, or trainees as required.
Qualifications
- MBBS with MD/DNB in Radiodiagnosis or a recognized qualification permitting independent ultrasound reporting as per applicable regulations.
- Valid registration with the relevant Medical Council.
- Fellowship or additional certification in ultrasound or fetal medicine is an advantage.
Experience
- 1–5 years of experience in diagnostic ultrasound (or as required by the organization).
- Experience in hospital or diagnostic center settings is preferred.
- Expertise in obstetric and fetal imaging is an added advantage.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound principles and interpretation.
- Excellent clinical judgment and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Radiology Information Systems (RIS), PACS, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Commitment to ethical medical practice and patient-centered care.

Working Conditions
- Hospital, diagnostic imaging center, or specialty clinic.
- May require rotational shifts, weekends, or on-call duties depending on organizational requirements.
- Prolonged standing and regular interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
Salary
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and organizational policy.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per hour
