Job Summary
The Senior Dialysis Technician is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality hemodialysis treatment to patients with kidney disorders. The role includes operating and maintaining dialysis equipment, monitoring patients during dialysis, ensuring infection control practices, mentoring junior technicians, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting NABH standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Prepare patients for hemodialysis treatment as per physician's orders.
- Assess patients before, during, and after dialysis by monitoring vital signs and clinical condition.
- Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis procedures safely.
- Recognize and immediately report complications during dialysis to the Nephrologist or Nursing In-charge.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their attendants regarding dialysis care.
Dialysis Equipment Management
- Prepare, test, and operate dialysis machines before each treatment.
- Perform routine machine cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance.
- Ensure proper functioning of RO water treatment systems before dialysis sessions.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly and coordinate with the Biomedical Engineering department.
Infection Prevention & Safety
- Follow standard precautions and infection control protocols.
- Ensure proper hand hygiene and use of PPE.
- Handle biomedical waste according to hospital policy.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during vascular access handling.
- Participate in infection surveillance and quality improvement activities.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate dialysis treatment records.
- Record patient observations, machine parameters, medications administered, and any complications.
- Maintain equipment maintenance and disinfection logs.
- Ensure all documentation complies with NABH standards.
Leadership & Supervision
- Guide and supervise junior dialysis technicians.
- Assist in scheduling daily dialysis treatments.
- Participate in orientation and competency assessment of new staff.
- Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs and hospital policies.
Emergency Management
- Respond effectively to dialysis-related emergencies.
- Assist during Code Blue situations.
- Maintain emergency equipment readiness within the dialysis unit.
Quality & NABH Compliance
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist during NABH audits.
- Ensure adherence to departmental KPIs and quality indicators.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training programs.
Responsibilities
