Assistant Salon Manager — Truefitt & Hill, Alwarpet (Chennai)
Location: Alwarpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Employment type: Full-time, on-site
Industry: Luxury Men's Grooming / Premium Barbering
About the Role
Truefitt & Hill, the world's oldest barbershop with a heritage dating back to 1805 and a tradition of serving royalty and discerning gentlemen, is seeking an Assistant Salon Manager to support the leadership of its Alwarpet branch.
This is a hands-on, floor-facing role for someone building towards a full branch-leadership career. You will work alongside the Salon Manager to keep daily operations running smoothly, support the grooming team, and act as a visible custodian of the Truefitt & Hill standard on the floor — stepping up to run the salon independently in the Manager's absence.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Standards
- Support the Salon Manager in running smooth, efficient daily operations; take charge of the floor during assigned shifts and in the Manager's absence.
- Uphold Truefitt & Hill's global brand standards across service quality, hygiene, ambience, and presentation through daily floor checks.
- Coordinate appointment scheduling and manage footfall flow in real time to minimise wait times and maximise chair utilisation.
- Monitor inventory of grooming products, retail stock, and consumables; flag replenishment needs, track usage, and help minimise wastage.
- Open and close the salon as per the shift roster, ensuring readiness and end-of-day standards.
Client Experience
- Be a visible presence on the floor — greet clients, ensure a personalised experience, and build familiarity with regular and VIP patrons.
- Resolve routine client feedback and requests on the spot; escalate sensitive or complex issues to the Salon Manager with full context.
- Support client retention efforts through consistent follow-ups, appointment reminders, and attentive service recovery.
Team Support
- Supervise and support a team of master barbers, stylists, and front-desk staff on a shift-to-shift basis.
- Assist with rostering, attendance tracking, and shift coverage.
- Help onboard new team members and support ongoing training and skill-development initiatives led by the Salon Manager.
- Reinforce a culture of professionalism, grooming etiquette, and pride in craft by setting the example on the floor.
Revenue & Business Support
- Contribute to branch revenue targets across services and retail; drive personal and team-level performance on the floor.
- Identify and encourage upselling and cross-selling of premium services and Truefitt & Hill's signature grooming range (colognes, shaving products, skincare).
- Compile and maintain daily reports on sales, average bill value, and staff productivity for the Salon Manager's review.
- Support the execution of local marketing, membership programmes, and community-building initiatives.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure day-to-day adherence to health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Handle billing accuracy, cash handling, and daily reconciliation under the Salon Manager's oversight.
- Maintain staff attendance records and operational documentation.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in salon/spa/hospitality, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory, team-lead, or assistant-manager capacity; exposure to luxury or premium men's grooming is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise a small team and contribute to service and revenue targets.
- Working knowledge of men's grooming services, barbering, and premium retail.
- Strong interpersonal and client-handling skills with a refined, professional demeanour.
- Comfort with basic numbers — daily sales, billing, stock counts, and performance reporting.
- Fluency in English and Tamil; additional languages an advantage.
- Familiarity with salon management/POS software and basic MS Office.
- Willingness to work weekends, peak hours, and rotational shifts as required.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to represent a globally respected heritage luxury brand.
- Competitive salary with performance-linked incentives.
