Job title: In-house Production Quality Engineer
Location: Bommasandra, Bengaluru (with periodic vendor visits)

About the role
We are seeking a Production Quality Engineer to ensure consistent, defect free manufacture of sheet metal, powder coated and welded assemblies. The role focuses on in-house inspection of punching, bending, welding, and powder coating. The ideal candidate combines strong hands on inspection skills, and practical problem solving to drive process stability and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Perform daily in process and final inspections of inhouse punching, bending, welding, and powder coating operations to verify conformance to drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Develop and follow inspection plans, checklists, and control charts for critical operations.
- Conduct root cause analysis and facilitate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring defects (dimensional, weld defects, coating issues, etc.).
- Monitor process parameters and capability for punching/bending (tooling condition, die clearance, bend radii), welding (parameters, welding sequence, fixtures), and powder coat (pretreatment, film thickness, cure).
- Perform welding-specific inspections: weld visual inspection, dimensional tolerances, joint fit-up, weld size/penetration, porosity, spatter, and compliance to welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Maintain and update inspection records, nonconformance reports (NCRs), CAPA logs, and quality metrics.
- Work with Production, Engineering, and Procurement to drive process improvements, tool changes, and supplier quality improvements.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects (6S/5S, Kaizen) to improve productivity and quality.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/manufacturing/production engineering or equivalent diploma with relevant experience.
- 1+ years’ experience in production quality within sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment; is a plus.
- Practical experience in inspecting punching and bending operations, and powder coating process knowledge (pretreatment, coating thickness, cure parameters).
- Familiarity with GD T, blueprint reading, and dimensional inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM basics a plus).
- Working knowledge of quality systems and tools: FMEA, control plans, root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys), SPC.
- Proficient with MS Office; experience with quality management software or inspection reporting tools a plus.
Performance metrics
- In process defect escapes and first pass yield improvements.
- Timely completion of inspection reports and NCR/CAPA turnaround.
