An occupational therapy assistant (OTA) helps patients of all ages develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist.
Core Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, stretches, and daily tasks like dressing or eating.
- Skill Teaching: Instruct patients and families on how to use adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs or specialized eating utensils.
- Pediatric Support: Lead children with developmental disabilities in play activities that boost coordination and social skills.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor patient performance, record daily progress, and report findings back to the primary occupational therapist.
- Administrative Tasks: Handle scheduling, maintain clean treatment spaces, and manage basic patient records.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: An associate’s degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
- Certification: Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), which grants the COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) credential.
- Licensure: State-issued license or certification where required by local health authorities.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, physical stamina for standing or lifting, and compassionate patient care.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
