Job Purpose
To plan, execute, and monitor sheet metal production processes to ensure output meets quality, cost, and delivery targets, while driving process improvements, machine utilization, and shop-floor discipline in line with the plant's manufacturing goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee day-to-day sheet metal production activities including cutting, bending, punching, welding, and fabrication to meet production schedules.
- Ensure adherence to production plans and coordinate with PPC for machine and manpower loading.
- Monitor and improve process efficiency, cycle time, and machine utilization on sheet metal lines (CNC turret punch, press brake, laser cutting, welding stations, etc.).
- Ensure product quality by enforcing in-process checks, resolving rejections, and driving root-cause analysis for recurring defects.
- Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, and Stores teams to minimize downtime and material wastage.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, Lean Manufacturing) on the shop floor.
- Supervise, guide, and train workmen and operators to build technical capability and ensure safe working practices.
- Maintain production records, MIS reports, and daily production/rejection data for management review.
- Ensure compliance with safety norms, statutory requirements, and factory regulations on the shop floor.
- Support new product development and process trials for new furniture designs involving sheet metal components.
- Coordinate with design/engineering teams on tooling, jigs, and fixtures required for production.
- Control production cost by optimizing material usage, manpower deployment, and machine downtime.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong hands-on knowledge of sheet metal processes: cutting, bending, punching, welding, and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of CNC turret punch, press brake, laser cutting, and related sheet metal machinery.
- Good understanding of production planning, quality systems, and shop-floor problem-solving techniques.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen practices.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and translate them into production processes.
- Strong people management and team leadership skills to handle workmen and contract labor.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and production MIS reporting.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Educational Qualification
- BE / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institute.
Experience
- 7 to 8 years of relevant experience in sheet metal production, preferably within the furniture, metal fabrication, or allied engineering industries.
Compensation
- CTC of ₹50,000 to ₹55,000 per month, based on experience and qualification, as per company norms.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹55,037.88 per month
